Media Matters

Related major/area of study: Telecommunications
Founded: September 28, 2007

Media Matters is a discussion-based, round-table style group that focuses on issues that impact the media we consume each day. From Net Neutrality to cross-ownership to the DTV switch of 2009 to localism, we talk about it all. All viewpoints and knowledge levels are welcome, and we even have our very own former FCC lawyer, Barry Umansky, as our faculty advisor. Even though most of our members are telecommunications majors, you don't need to be in TCOM to join -- anyone with an interest in media is welcome. During the spring 2008 semester, we expanded into a radio show on WCRD, which you can listen to on at 10:30 pm on Thursday nights, where we discuss these very issues and make our views public.
