The Ball State Opera Theatre is an auditioned, training-based ensemble that focuses on the effective interpretation and communication of operatic literature. The program offers soloists an opportunity to apply and develop their vocal technique and musicianship through the preparation of suitable roles. Musical, linguistic, and stylistic accuracy are stressed. The program also challenges singers to discover and realize the potential of opera as a total art form through stagecraft training and the process of research, discovery, and incorporation of a character into performance. Productions consist of a mainstage opera with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra in Emens Auditorium as well as a Spring Outreach Program with a 50-minute Children Opera or opera presentation delivered in area schools.
Auditions are held the first week of the fall semester and the end of the spring semester. For information on Opera at Ball State, contact Faculty Advisor Craig Priebe.
