Professional Career Advising

Three university offices support quality career decision making and students can begin to establish career goals with any of these services. Career goals are central to student success at Ball State and life after graduation.

University College – University College offers major/minor advising for academic success. 

Counseling Center – The Counseling Center provides career counseling to the Ball State University student community. People who have careers that match their interests, skills, and values are more likely to be satisfied. If you spend one-half of your waking hours at work, having a satisfying career is important!

The Counseling Center offers

  • Career assessments including:
    • the Campbell Interest and Skills Survey
    • the Strong Interest Inventory
    • Myers Briggs Type Indicator
  • We can help you use the assessment information to narrow your career and major choices
  • We can also help you look at the ways in which your values may help you choose a career
    • We offer SIGI, a computerized career exploration program that helps you find careers and majors related to your interests, values, skills, and personality. 
    • Finally, if you feel stress or anxiety about choosing a major or career or about your job search, we can help you learn to manage that stress. 

    Career Center – The Career Center offers individual career advising with assistance for career related research of occupational options, industries, and employer organizations. We help you with professional skill acquisition including

    • Revising resumes and cover letters
    • Practicing your interview skills
    • Starting your job search
    • Learning how to network
