Suspicious E-mail

Handling suspicious e-mail incorrectly can have a negative effect on your computer, the Ball State network, the protection of your identity, and to people whose e-mail addresses you have stored in your inbox.

If you get an e-mail from someone you don’t know, do not open the e-mail. Delete the message. It is especially important to not open e-mails with attachments, since they can contain infections that can harm your computer.

Any e-mail asking for confidential information such as your Ball State password, bank account information, or your Social Security number should be deleted. Never respond to e-mails asking for confidential information.

If you are not sure whether an e-mail is legitimate, forward it to security@bsu.edu.
