How Can a Victim Advocate Help Me?

If you or someone you know has experienced a victimization, we are here to help. We are here to listen, support, and provide you with resources and options—you do not have to face the situation alone! The Office of Victim Services (OVS) offers a number of services including education and training, information and referral, crisis intervention, and advocacy.   

A victim advocate will provide: 

• 24 hour-a-day support, information, referrals, and advocacy. The advocate will respond to Ball Memorial Hospital or Ball State Police Department after hours to provide emotional support and guidance.
• support to individuals who have been victimized, whether the abuse occurred recently or in the past
• assistance with exploration of options and accessing community resources, including filing for a protective order 
• accompaniment to court, meetings, hearings involving the criminal justice system or Ball State student conduct process with the Office of Student Rights and Community Standards 
• act as a liaison between the victim and the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office 
• inform individuals of their Indiana victim rights

OVS also provides educational programming, internships, and training for students interested in participating in our Peer Victim Advocate Team (PVAT).
