Held several times each semester in the Schwartz Digital Complex in Bracken Library, Tech4U events highlight how Ball State faculty, staff, and students lead the way in the use and application of digital and emerging technologies inside and outside the classroom.
Sponsored and organized by Ball State’s Office of Information Technology, the events provide support and instruction for using Web 2.0 technologies, Adobe software, equipment, and academic systems, as well as share information about the university’s resources and services that spur ingenuity and creative exploration in emerging media.
Past participants have created a virtual studio environment; they have shared their insights about integrating new technologies into pedagogy, and they continue to demonstrate how integrating new technologies into the classroom can advance education.
Faculty sessions have included creating a virtual studio for student architects using SMART sketch tablets, video conferencing, Second Life, and Skype. Another has demonstrated how faculty members are integrating blogs, microblogging, media and social networks, digital storytelling, and GIS technologies into student projects, courses, and seminars to expand students’ curiosity and imagination.
Collaborative technologies eliminate traditional boundaries, giving students the opportunity to hear new perspectives, embrace cultural exchange, and build lasting connections to their educators, mentors, and peers. Vendors such as Microsoft, Apple, AT&T, Lenovo, and Bell Tech Logix are our educational partners providing support to attendees researching new products.
Upcoming events will feature student perspectives about using new technologies and learning in the 21st century, showcase collaborative student/faculty projects, and demonstrate how the university’s Emerging Technologies and Unified Technology Support areas provide opportunities for students and faculty to learn, fix, and create.
