Indiana Main Street Technical Assistance Project

The Center for Historic Preservation has an ongoing partnership with Indiana Main Street, a program of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The Main Street concept uses design, promotion, organization planning, and economic restructuring to encourage the restoration and revitalization of historic downtowns.

Every year, we assist three to four Main Street communities with a variety of downtown and community enhancement projects. We have:

  • created design guidelines and façade drawings
  • developed adaptive use studies
  • produced historic tourism materials
  • assessed building conditions
  • prepared nominations for National Register of Historic Places
  • performed studies such as research into how a traffic, parking and pedestrian path could aid in the flow of downtown visitors

Take a look at the impact we make, both in the preservation of Indiana’s historic character and the stimulation of economic growth. Check out our current and past Main Street projects.
