MArch Application Checklist

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE (MArch) PROFESSIONAL DEGREE

Admission Qualifications:

  • completion of a BS/BA in architecture in an accredited program, or a BS/BA in a field other than architecture
  • cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • minimum total GRE (Graduate Record Examination) score of 1,000 (verbal + quantitative)
  • acceptance by the Graduate School (U.S. applicants) or the Rinker Center for International Programs (international applicants)

Admission Process: 

U.S. applicants must first apply to and be accepted to Ball State University by the Graduate School.

International applicants must first apply and be accepted to Ball State University by the Rinker Center for International Programs.

Once accepted to Ball State University by the Graduate School, or the Rinker Center for International Programs, applicants then must submit additional application materials (see requirements below) to the Department of Architecture for consideration of admission into the master of architecture (MArch) professional degree program.

Application Requirements:

  1. Resume or CV
  2. Writing sample from an academic course
  3. Statement of purpose: Why you want to come to Ball State University to earn a master of architecture degree and enter the profession of architecture
  4. Recommendation waiver form (downloadable)
  5. GRE (Graduate Records Examination) score. The institution code is 1051. The department code is 4401. You may scan an official copy of your GRE score and e-mail it to Julie Kratzner.

Please e-mail the above as PDF attachments to Julie Kratzner:

  1. Three recommendation letters along with recommendation forms
    Applicants are responsible for requesting three evaluators to download and complete the recommendation form and e-mail it along with a signed letter of recommendation on official letterhead to Julie Kratzner.
  2. Portfolio (8.5 x 11 inches bound) including evidence of design work in university courses and studios and/or professional practice. If teamwork is shown, you must clearly indicate what your role was. Artistic work and hands-on building work can also be included.
