World Usability Day 2009
Anyone interested in usability is invited to World Usability Day, sponsored in part by the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS).
This is the fifth annual Indiana World Usability Day event, this year being held at the IUPUI Student Center. This year’s theme is sustainability. Our keynote speaker is Rod Collier, who was involved in designing the David Letterman Building. Benefits of sustainable design and building practices will be his discussion topic.
If you are planning to attend, please register online by November 5, so we can plan for seating, lunches, etc.
The schedule of presentations is being finalized and will be distributed soon. You can also check www.indiana-upa.org for updates. The preliminary schedule is:
9:00 Usability challenges for a “paperless” office-–an interactive session to share ideas
10:00 An “Introduction to Usability” session for those who are new to usability-–and an “Environmental Psychology” session for others
11:00 A “Usability Tools” session, involving brief presentations and discussions of various tools being used by usability professionals
Noon Lunch
12:30 Keynote address by Rod Collier of Rottmann Architects to discuss sustainable design practices in building architecture
1:30 A “State of Usability in Indiana” discussion, lead by representatives of Web usability professionals and academic departments, to discuss current opportunities for usability professionals in Indiana-–and opportunities for increasing opportunities for usability professionals in Indiana.
2:30 An Indiana UPA Chapter forum, lead by the current chapter officers, to describe current chapter activities and to invite input about ways the chapter can meet its goals of supporting usability professionals and students in Indiana.
Attendees are welcome to set up posters to share current work with others (please indicate if you want to display a poster when you register).
Past World Usability Events have provided a great opportunity for local usability professionals and students to network, discover common interests, and learn about usability processes, tools, challenges, and success stories. We hope you can join us on November 12!
