Writing may be the cornerstone of journalism, public relations, and advertising, but research is the solid foundation. We make sure that our students graduate well-versed and highly experienced in the skills required for sophisticated research.
Undergraduate department majors take an information-gathering course that teaches methods for applied research. Additional course work places a strong emphasis on research, allowing you to develop specific skill sets that will serve you in the field you plan to pursue.
The senior-level capstone experience will give you an additional opportunity to demonstrate the research skills you have developed through your course work and extracurricular activities. This, too, is tailored to your major—for example, advertising students may develop an advertising campaign, demonstrating both creativity and knowledge of market-research techniques.
At the graduate level, all of our students are expected to complete either a research paper or thesis. This project follows two graduate-level research-development courses.
