Students of all majors and academic levels flooded the second floors of the Art and Journalism and Letterman buildings to take part in the annual Superparty, Sept. 4.
For the annual event, student leaders of organizations within the College of Communication, Information, and Media set up booths, handed out fliers and talked with students in attendance, who had the opportunity to peruse the offerings and get involved with organizations.
This year 744 students registered for the event. They walked from the Art and Journalism building, through the Robert Bell Building and into the Letterman building, assessing the more than 30 organizations.
“The Superparty was very successful. It presented students with all the organizations the college had to offer in one place,” Lori Byers, associate dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media, said.
Preparation for the Superparty began at the end of the last school year. Superparty event coordinator, Stefanie Hake, contacted all the organizations and performed all the logistics for the event.
“Freshman probably have the most to gain by coming to the Superparty because they are exposed to all the clubs and organizations within the college,” Hake said. “Even a telecommunications or communications studies student can see what journalism has to offer and vice versa.”
The Department of Journalism was represented at the Superparty by all 11 of their organizations. Organization leaders said they felt being at the Superparty was crucial to recruiting new members.
“I think we got more than 50 signatures of incoming students and they seem to be very excited about it,” David Gaunt, PRSSA president, said.
