Ready to begin your online or distance education? The steps below will help you get started:
Distance Education Checklist
Use the following checklist to ensure you receive credit for your class. Filling out an application and registration form begins the process, but the process is not complete until all requested materials have been received, evaluated, and you are officially admitted. If you have any questions, send us an e-mail or call us at 1-800-872-0369.
Step 1: LEARN ABOUT THE PROGRAMS
Online and Distance Education offers a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate credit courses via the Internet, Web Conferencing, and live off-campus classroom instruction. Several non-credit training opportunities are also available.
Step 2: GET ADMITTED
You must be admitted before you will be allowed to register for classes. In most cases, transcripts of prior academic work are required.
Step 3: OBTAIN YOUR BALL STATE NUMBERS
You will need a Ball State username and password to register for classes online. If you are a first-time student, a username and password will be sent to you via regular mail or your personal e-mail account. If you are a continuing student and do not have an account, or if you have forgotten your password, e-mail to request this information. Course confirmation letters and other university information will be e-mailed to your Ball State e-mail account.
To maintain the confidentiality of social security numbers at Ball State, all students are assigned an alternate ID number. You are required to give this number when requesting course or personal information by phone, e-mail, or in person. Your Ball State ID number will be sent along with your Ball State username and password. You can also find your Ball State ID number online, using your username and password.
Step 4: GET REGISTERED
View the schedule of classes for the appropriate semester, and then complete the online registration form. Once you are registered, an e-mail confirmation will be sent to your Ball State e-mail account. You are not required to contact an advisor prior to registration, but we do recommend it.
Step 5: PAY YOUR FEES
Fees are due when billed by the bursar's office or before the first day of the semester, whichever comes first. Paper bills are no longer mailed to students. Through Cardinal QuickPay, a notification is sent to your Ball State e-mail account when your current statement is ready to be viewed. Cardinal QuickPay is an electronic system where all students and others authorized by students can view bills, print bills, and make payments online. E-bills display the same information as traditional paper billing statements, for example, student fees, room and board, and miscellaneous charges, credits and payments.
