Dropping/Withdrawing

Procedures for Dropping or Withdrawing from a Class
  • To drop or withdraw from a class, complete the Withdrawal Form.
  • Any refunds are based on the date initial contact is made with the School of Extended Education regarding the drop/withdrawal or the date recorded on the Withdrawal Form.
  • Students should discuss all withdrawals with the instructor after the Change of Course Period.
  • View information about the refund schedule.

Difference Between a Drop and a Withdrawal
A "drop" means that you have dropped the course during a period where there is a 100 percent refund. No entry is made on your transcripts. A "withdrawal" means that you have dropped the course after the 100 percent refund period. In this case, a W is recorded on your record for the course.

Course Abandonment
Your inactivity in a course does not constitute a course drop or withdrawal. You will be financially responsible for the course registration unless you notify the appropriate person to drop or withdraw. Refunds calculations are based on the date you contacted the appropriate office.

Registration Contract
When you register for classes, you will pay all tuition, fees, fines, and other costs imposed by the university. Spaces in classes are reserved for you. Decisions about how many class sections to offer and other commitments of instructional resources are made based on the enrollment data provided after the registration process is complete. Other students may be closed out of a preferred section if the last available space is reserved for you.

If any of your charges remain unpaid, you may be charged the university's cost of collection. This includes, but is not limited to, reasonable attorney fees, collection fees, and court costs.

In exchange for the university's commitment of resources on your behalf, you assume a responsibility to: a) pay the fees assessed for those classes, or b) complete a Distance Education course drop/withdrawal form or notify the School of Extended Education prior to the start of the term if you are unable to attend so that the class spaces may be released and made available to other students.

The university will not automatically cancel your registration for nonpayment. If you do not request that your registration be dropped or withdrawn, your name will appear on the class rosters, and you will remain responsible for full fees until such time as you complete a Distance Education course drop/withdrawal form (refer to the refund schedule for information about the percentage of fees refunded). If you are still on the final rosters for the term, you may receive grades of F for the courses in which you were registered.
