Student and Faculty Awards

In 2007, Ball State students, faculty, and staff received 11 nominations and won two regional Emmys. The university has received 61 regional Emmy nominations and won 20 since 2000—the most regional Emmys won by any American college or university over the last seven years. Recently retired Ball State telecommunications instructor Jim Shasky was honored with a lifetime achievement award for his work in television education during the regional chapter's annual Emmy Awards ceremony September 8. Two telecommunications students earned a gold Student Academy Award in 2006 for their short film, Perspective. Another student won the same award in 2005. Learn more. . .

Ball State was named the TV School of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) in spring 2007. The university was honored with the organization's top honor as students or groups representing the telecommunications department received 12 awards during the recent 2007 IASB College Competition. Ball State's student-run radio station, WCRD-FM, won 7 Communicator Awards—including 5 in sports broadcasting—in a 2004 international radio competition. The station received two awards in 2003.
