Thank you for your interest in joining a sorority (women's organizations). There are many sororities on campus, and you are encouraged to browse our Web site for more information on our many chapters.
The best thing to do before you participate in recruitment or membership intake is to do research. You can learn more about the sororities by visiting the chapters page and reading our information about Greek terms, academic requirements, financial commitments, the advantages of membership and frequently asked questions.
The sorority recruitment process in spring at the Ball State is designed to give both chapter members and you a fair and equal opportunity to become acquainted as friends. Not all sororities participate in spring recruitment. The spring recruitment process is designed to allow you to get to know the women in the different chapters who may be participating in spring recruitment.
Sorority recruitment is informally structured each spring. Each sorority has different dates and length for when it conducts recruitment. At the beginning of each spring semester, the Panhellenic Council sponsors a sorority informational that allows you to learn about which sororities may be conducting spring recruitment.
Ball State has 10 chapters that make up the Panhellenic Council. Sororities recruit year-round, but we encourage you to begin the recruitment process during the beginning of fall because all the sororities will participate each fall. Researching in the spring to participate in the fall will give you information about each sorority and will allow you to meet each sorority instead of limiting your options to only the sororities participating in the spring.
We recommend contacting the chapters that interest you. The recruitment process works best when you take the initiative. Contact the chapters that you might be interested in directly. Please check the sorority profile page of our Web site and the Web site of each sorority for recruitment dates, details, and contact information.
Here are some recruitment tips to help you:
- look at a large number of sororities before making your decision
- ask questions because sorority members are eager to help you in your decision
- be confident in yourself,
- take your time when making your decision
Ball State is home to one traditionally African-American sorority and one traditionally Latina sorority. These chapters recruit through a process known as intake. Although these organizations consist primarily of minority women, they are open to all women at Ball State.
The intake process for every chapter is defined by its international/national organization. Membership intake consists of attending a meeting, completing an application directly to the sorority of interest, gaining approval from the organization, learning the group’s history and traditions and participating in initiation.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council intake process at the Ball State is designed to give both you and chapter members a fair and equal opportunity to become acquainted as friends.
Throughout the year, chapters hold social, informational and educational events, which provide you with the opportunity to meet the members of each organization. When conducting membership intake, chapters hold interest meetings to provide you information and membership forms. Membership intake is held at various times during the year. Please check the sorority profile page of our Web site and the Web site of each sorority for further details and contact information.
