Floyd Leadership Scholars

The Floyd Leadership Scholars program provides scholarships for minority freshmen who possess leadership potential and high academic abilities. Merit scholarships both attract and reward talented students who want to be leaders and difference-makers. A vibrant, diverse student population enriches the educational experiences of all students, preparing them for a world that is changing at a breathtaking pace.

A.B. Floyd and his wife, LaVon, have pledged a lead gift this strategic scholarship initiative. Education Redefined: Strategic Plan 2007–2012 includes Ball State’s objective of achieving 15 percent of our total enrollment from underrepresented minority populations by 2012.

Having a diverse student body is crucial to Ball State’s academic and cultural relevance in our increasingly diverse society. Because of their strong commitment to helping others realize their potential, A.B. Floyd and Blaine Bishop will cochair the committee charged with raising funds for the Floyd Leadership Scholarships. The achievements of Floyd and Bishop provide outstanding examples of higher education’s important benefits to developing young people’s full potential.

Their Ball State educations and experiences honed their leadership skills and provided the basis for their lifelong success. Students chosen to receive a Floyd Leadership Scholarship will exemplify this same potential to not only succeed in their chosen careers, but also to lead.

The Floyd Leadership Scholars program will reward high-ability students, especially those who have participated in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, or the Center for Leadership Development in Indianapolis. These scholarships will play a significant role in recruiting high-caliber students to Indiana, increasing the state’s ability to retain these exceptional young people after they graduate.

Giving to a scholars program is investing in the intellectually curious, one of five priorities of Ball State Bold: Investing in the Future capital campaign.
