Entrepreneur Robert Terhune, chairman of Terhune Inc., believes that good teachers are an essential ingredient in the recipe for success for today's youth. "I've always been interested in enhancing children's lives, and, other than their parents, no one is more influential to children than their teachers," said Terhune. "By assisting the Teachers College, I'm helping children develop by assuring better teachers." Terhune's most recent gift was the creation of a charitable lead trust through the Ball State University Foundation. Annual payments from the Robert A. Terhune Sr. Charitable Lead Annuity Trust will be used to help promote the Teachers College, provide additional support for the TEACH Lab (a computing lab to help children with special needs and their educators), and facilitate Teachers College faculty training."Bob Terhune's enormous generosity to Teachers College will enhance faculty scholarship, the use of technologies, and our reputation," said Roy A. Weaver, dean of Teachers College. "To imagine that he has provided this support in a way that will serve the college for two decades is incredible. His kindness is deeply appreciated." In addition to benefiting Ball State, Terhune's charitable lead trust is set up to also help his four grandchildren, who are the remainder beneficiaries of this gift. "Creating a charitable lead trust is a good way to pass assets on to your own family and benefit your favorite cause," said Terhune. "I want my grandchildren to have these assets at a time in their lives when they are more mature and can make better decisions about these funds."
