Ball State director appears on Voice of America radio show
Topic: International Education
February 15, 2007
Marty Bennett, director of international services
, was a guest for a live broadcast of the Voice of America radio show "Talk to America."
During the program, Bennett answered questions from the radio host and callers about international student study opportunities, including those at Ball State, where the university has recorded a record-high for its international student enrollment after rebounding from a post-Sept. 11 drop.
New enrollment increased 29 percent this fall, when 193 students representing 51 countries enrolled at Ball State. The total breaks the 1996 record of 171 new international students.
The increase was due in part to a five-year strategic plan that included Bennett attending college fairs, recruiting and working with key exchange partners to develop more productive relationships and programs.
Bennett said he hopes that the international programs will continue to thrive because participants bring so much to the university, he said. Currently, 511 international students representing 84 different countries are enrolled at Ball State.
"Talk to America" is the Voice of America's flagship broadcast and features a variety of topics, including breaking news, international relations, science, health and cultural trends.
