Ball State to showcase Digital Exchange projects April 10-11

Projects that explore how digital technology can promote the exchange of information in both educational and commercial environments will be showcased April 10-11 at Ball State.

Projects produced by the Center for Media Design (CMD) and the Digital Exchange will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second floor of the Art and Journalism Building. The showcase is free and open to the public.

Showcase visitors may participate in several simulated research studies, including an exhibit in a mock living room where CMD staff will demonstrate how they use head-mounted, eye-tracking gear and technology to track where a viewer is looking on a television screen and the effectiveness of screen designs.

In another exhibit area, students and faculty will learn about the future of news being explored by the News Research Institute (NRI), which will display prototypes and research findings for emerging news models.

Other displays will feature high-definition movie projects, digital intermedia art and animation and digital fabrication generated by the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education (IDEE), the Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts and Animation (IDIAA), the Institute for Digital Fabrication (IDF) and the Digital Production Corps.

Showcase visitors also may visit the showcase booth in the Art and Journalism Building's Atrium during the noon hour on both days, using their cell phones to answer poll questions and win free gift cards. 

The CMD is a research and development facility focused on the creation, testing and practical application of digital technologies and content for business, classroom, home and community. Under the direction of the CMD, the Digital Exchange was created to expand opportunities for students to participate in educational experiences through four immersive learning institutes. Both the CMD and Digital Exchange were developed as a result of $40 million in funding from Lilly Endowment Inc.
