Derek Wilson, sophomore, talks to members of the audience at the 2007 Spectacular student preview show.
They're young, talented, energetic, and they're celebrating more than four decades of musical magic with a kaleidoscope of America's favorite songs. They are the all-new, 44th anniversary edition of the critically acclaimed Ball State University Singers
, and they're coming at 7:30 p.m April 4-5 to Emens Auditorium.
As they have for more than 40 seasons, the University Singers' 40-member cast will burst onstage with music for all ages and songs for every occasion.
Jeffrey Carter, associate director of Ball State's School of Music and director of University Singers said: "Each Spectacular showcases the strengths of that particular cast in a revue featuring songs of faith, hope, laughter and love. You'll enjoy all the expected razzamatazz, plus a great light show, a kickin' band, new costumes and liberal doses of humor. Old favorites stand side-by-side with newly arranged charts. This show truly has something for everyone!"
This year marks Carter's last year as director of University Singers and producer of the Spectacular as he is leaving to take another music executive position at another school. In his eight years with University Singers, Carter has coordinated the group's visits to sing at the White House, the Pentagon and Disneyland and in tours to southern California and China in addition to Indiana and neighboring states.
Reserved seating costs are $15; general admission tickets cost $10; and Ball State students pay $5 in advance if they show their Ball State identification. Tickets are available at Emens Box Office. Call 765-285-1539 for more information.
