The estate of Selma Jeanne Cohen has provided the Benjamin V. Cohen Memorial Fund with a monetary gift in excess of $38,000.
Selma, a New York resident, was the niece of Benjamin, a Muncie, Ind., native who was instrumental in organizing the United Nations and in constructing much of the New Deal legislation. Selma was a noted scholar and critic of dance, devoting her life to teaching and documenting its history and importance until her death in 2005.
The Cohen Memorial Fund was established in 1984 by Cohen's nephew, Bernard Freund, an attorney and philanthropist. The fund supports the Cohen Peace Fellowship Program, awarding funds to Ball State faculty and doctoral students for research in fields related to progress toward a peaceful world. For more information about the Cohen Research Awards and other programs, contact the Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs at 765-285-1601. There is not currently an open call for proposals.
