Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has named Nicole M. Vauter, a finance and economics major from Hebron, Ind., to a two-year term as the new student representative on the Board of Trustees at Ball State University.

An undergraduate fellow in the Miller College of Business, Vauter also is a member of the student alumni relations team and a co-chair with Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity.

"I want to help uphold the exceptional quality of education at Ball State and aid in advancing college experiences for future students," said Vauter, who succeeds 2009 graduate Kellie Conrad as one of the nine voting members on the board. "I understand that each board member must act on behalf of the entire student body and all faculty members … to put aside personal viewpoints and objectives to see the real needs and desires of the situation at hand as they affect the university as a whole.

"The role of the student member is an absolute honor and privilege.  I have a great desire to represent the students and faculty of Ball State, and I will assume the position with enthusiasm, optimism and a determined will."

Vauter's appointment was among a dozen announced by Daniels to fill various board vacancies at six Indiana public universities including Indiana University, Purdue, Indiana State, the University of Southern Indiana and Vincennes University.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Ball State Board of Trustees is July 24, when the members will vote on proposed tuition and fees for the 2009-10 academic year.
