For the second year in a row, Ball State University's School of Music has been named one of "In Tune's 2010 Best Music Schools" by In Tune Monthly magazine.

The School of Music is in the top 10 percent of music schools nationwide, a list that includes influential members of academia such as Eastman, New York University, Juilliard, and the New England Conservatory.

For its rankings, the magazine looked at the entire scope of the music school at Ball State before naming it one of its top picks.

"Being listed as one of In Tune Monthly magazine's best music programs for the second year in a row recognizes the quality of programs and the outstanding faculty in the School of Music," said Meryl Mantione, director of the School of Music.

In Tune Monthly is written for music educators and music students in grades 7 to 12 and publishes from October to May. Its goal is to enrich and broaden music curriculum, as well as give information about skills development, continuing education options and career opportunities.

Robert Kvam, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said he was pleased the School of Music was being recognized again.

"It is rewarding to be among the many prestigious schools listed by In Tune Monthly," he said. "It is further evidence of the exceptional teaching, musicianship and mentoring provided by faculty here in the School of Music."

In Tune Monthly is published with the cooperation and encouragement of the Music Educators National Conference; the Grammy Foundation; VH1's Save the Music; the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers; Broadcast Music Inc. and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
