Journalism emeritus professor establishes fund to enhance Ball State public relations program

Ball State University Department of Journalism Professor Emeritus Mel Sharpe and others have donated funds in excess of $29,000 to establish the Dr. Mel Sharpe Excellence Fund for Public Relations. This fund will be used to support activities that bring distinction, recognition and excellence to Ball State's public relations program.
Sharpe served as sequence head of Ball State's public relations program for 25 years. He also served as president of the Indiana School Public Relations Association in 1985, president of the Hoosier Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 1993 and as east central district chair of PRSA in 1997. He received PRSA's Outstanding Educator Award in 1998 and was the first educator to receive the Patrick Jackson Award for Distinguished Service to PRSA in 2006. He was named to Ball State's Journalism Hall of Fame by the Ball State Journalism Alumni Association and has received the university's Outstanding Faculty Service Award.
