Daniels reappoints Hollis Hughes to the Ball State Board of Trustees

MUNCIE, Ind. – Gov. Mitch Daniels has reappointed Hollis E. Hughes Jr., South Bend, to the Ball State Board of Trustees. Hughes has been president of the board since 2011. He joined the trustees in 1989 as the nominee of the Alumni Council and was board secretary from 2006 to 2011.
“I greatly appreciate the support of the Alumni Council over the years and appreciate that Gov. Daniels has given me the opportunity to be of service to my alma mater and the citizens of Indiana,” Hughes said.
Hughes has served his South Bend community in many ways. He was president and chief executive officer of the United Way of St. Joseph County for 13 years before his retirement in 2007. He also is a past director of South Bend’s Model Cities Program, responsible for planning, coordinating and allocating the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s resources to local government agencies, organizations and citizen groups. He also served as director of South Bend’s bureau of housing, director of the St. Joseph County Housing Allowance Office, director of the Housing Assistance Office Inc. and executive director of the St. Joseph County Housing Authority.
Hughes earned his bachelor’s degree from Ball State in 1965 and his master’s degree in 1972. He also serves his alma mater as a board member of the Ball State University Foundation, the Alumni Council and the Black Alumni Society Board of Directors.
