"There's No Place Like Homecoming," Ball State's 2013 Homecoming themeBall State University is embracing all things Wizard of Oz with its “There’s No Place Like Homecoming” theme as the campus community prepares to celebrate the 87 year of this annual, weeklong tradition. Homecoming events begin Oct. 7 and culminate Oct. 12, when the Ball State Cardinals host the Kent State Golden Flashes at 3 p.m. in Scheumann Stadium.

Fans will see replays, interviews and special features during games on the screens, leased from a Pendleton, Ind., company.

A committee representing broad participation from the campus community will conduct a routine assessment of the Ball State athletics program. The review must be conducted in 10-year cycles at all NCAA Division I institutions to validate alignment with the Association's goals and standards. A positive outcome would result in recertification of Ball State's participation in NCAA intercollegiate play.

Ball State will recognize alumna Angela Ahrendts, head of British luxury brand Burberry, and longtime friend and benefactor of the university John Scheumann during annual spring Commencement exercises on May 8. Ahrendts will be the day's principal speaker and recipient of an honorary doctor of humane letters degree, while Scheumann will be presented with the President's Medal of Distinction.

President Jo Ann M. Gora will present him with the President's Medal of Distinction and award two honorary degrees during the ceremony.
