Classroom Art Teachers and Art Museum Educators: Collaboration and Advocacy*
Dr. Laurel Campbell, Director of Art Education at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), will provide a short history of art education and its changing philosophy before discussing the collaborative role both visual art teachers and art museum educators play in advocating for a more far-reaching awareness of the educational nature of art museum collections.

Food as Art: Chefs as Visual Artists*
Chef Lucas Miller will explore the intersection of chef-created food and art. He will discuss how chefs use techniques from the art world to create the foods we are presented in restaurants. An exploration of works from the museum's collections along with images of modern-day food presentations will be used to demonstrate the bridge between these two worlds.

Results and Evaluation of Look To Learn: Critical Thinking Through Visual Images*
Felicia A. Dixon, Ph.D., Professor Emerita, Department of Educational Psychology at Ball State University, was the evaluator of the Look to Learn Project, a collaboration between the David Owsley Museum of Art, Teachers College, and Burris Laboratory School. Teachers used the Visual Thinking Strategy regularly with selected images from the museum and others from around the world to enhance critical thinking in 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

Alliance member and museum docent Dr. Annemarie Voss presents about the history and purpose of the major art fair documenta, the “museum of 100 days” and its influence on and connection to works of art in the Owsley Museum of Art. Documenta has taken place in Kassel, Germany, Annemarie’s hometown, since 1955. Come hear about the most recent one!

In 2010, the name of the Education Department at the Indianapolis Museum of Art was changed to the Audience Engagement Department. What does this shift in title signify? Learn about the exciting new initiatives underway at the IMA, aimed at diversifying the Museum’s audiences and broadening its reach in the community from Preston Bautista, director of audience engagement.

Surprises from the Vault: A Peek at DOMA’s Decorative Arts/Design Collection*
In anticipation of the re-opening of DOMA’s galleries in Spring 2013, over the past two years independent curator and crafts historian Davira S. Taragin has been studying the museum’s largely unknown decorative arts and design holdings. Her talk will focus on the treasures she has uncovered, making DOMA one of the best university decorative arts/design collections in this country.

Annual Alliance Trip

Enjoy a day away with friends on the annual Alliance member trip to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. FWMoA executive director Charles A. Sheppard III will greet the group and Sachi Yanari-Rizzo, curator of prints and drawings, will provide collection viewing featuring historical and contemporary prints. Then experience current exhibitions Paul Caponigro: The Power of Beauty; Afros: A Celebration of Natural Hair by Michael July; and the Artist Members’ Exhibition.
A sneak peak of Fort Wayne Collects: Diverse Perspectives behind-the-scenes may also be provided.
All program costs and lunch, which will be at the popular and elegant Club Soda, are included. Transportation provided for the first 14. Leave at 8 a.m. from the Alumni Center.
