Semesterlong internships provide hands-on, practical experience for students interested in exploring the museum profession.

Internships for university students are available for credit or no credit. An internship is 150 hours and must be completed over the course of the semester during normal business hours at the David Owsley Museum of Art.

A museum internship is a project-based, prearranged, structured learning experience, scheduled within a specific time frame. It should be relevant to both the intern's stated academic and professional goals, and to the museum's needs and interests.

How to Apply

Ball State students interested in an internship should complete the online volunteer and internship application, and submit the following:

  • resume
  • transcript
  • two professional and/or academic letters of reference
  • cover letter stating your museum internship interests as they relate to your career goals

We will not review incomplete applications.

The internship pays $7.25 per hour for at least 10 hours per week.

All interns must have a GPA of at least 3.25.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall internship: June 15
  • Spring internship: Oct. 15
  • Summer internship: Feb. 15

If the deadline falls on a weekend, please submit application materials by the preceding Friday. The internship program is competitive. We will contact each student the month after the application deadline.
