Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association
Alumni Awards Criteria

Current members of the Family and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association Board of Directors or the Ball State University Alumni Council are ineligible for award consideration until their term of service is complete.

FCS Award of Merit
The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of the Ball State University Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics).
 
A. A maximum of five (5) may be presented in any award year.
B. The nominee should meet the following criteria:
      1. Has demonstrated excellent potential for success in chosen field.
      2. Has graduated from BSU no more than 10 years ago
      3. Is supportive of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and Ball State University.
Previous Award Recipients

FCS Award of Achievement

The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of the Ball State University Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics).

A. Up to two (2) awards may be presented in any award year.
B. The Award of Achievement nominee should meet the following criteria:
      1. Holds a position of responsibility and has demonstrated a history of success (promotions, awards, recognitions, etc.) in a field related to FCS.
      2. Is supportive of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and Ball State University.
Previous Award Recipients

FCS Award of Distinction
The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of the Ball State University Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics).

A.No more than one (1) may be presented in any award year.
B.  The Award of Distinction nominee should meet the following criteria:
      1. Holds a position of distinction in education, business, government, community or academe.
      2. Demonstrates outstanding success in his or her field related to Family and Consumer Sciences.
      3. Demonstrates loyalty to, support of, and leadership on behalf of the Ball State Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Previous Award Recipients

FCS Hall of Fame

The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of the Ball State University Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics),
The nominee has shown significant achievement and exceptional support of Ball State’s FCS throughout the years.
A. No more than one (1) may be given in any award year.
B. The recipient may have received other BSU FCS awards in other years.

FCS Faculty Award

A. The award recognizes FCS faculty who have been involved and supportive of FCS Alumni Society programs and events.
B. No more than one (1) may be given in any award year.

Friend of FCS Award

A. The award recognizes an individual or business who has provided support to Ball
       State’s FCS Department or FCS Alumni Society.
B. No more than one (1) may be given in any award year.

   B. Publication of Nomination Form
      1.FCS Department newsletter and publications
      2.Alumni newsletter and publications
      3.Ball State Alumnus magazine
      4.FCS Department Internet homepage and BSU Alumni Association homepage

  C. Proactively search books of lists, Who’s Who lists, publications, etc., for Ball State University FCS alumni.
  D. Networking with professional colleagues at business meetings to ascertain colleagues school affiliations.
  E. Aggressively seek out a variety of qualified candidates from a broad cross section of the field (i.e., government, business, education, non profit).

II. Nomination Process
  A. Inquiries and nominations will be sent via mail to: FCS Alumni Awards, Alumni Association, Ball State University, Muncie, IN  47306 0075; via fax: 765 285 1414; via e mail: bsualumni@bsu.edu; or phone 765 285 1080.
  B. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis.
  C. Submit a nomination form via mail and a letter of recommendation, or submit a nomination online.  However, no formal recommendation is necessary if a news or magazine clipping describes a possible candidate’s appropriateness for award consideration.
  D. The BSUAA FCS representative will send the nominee a letter and biographical request form.
  E. All nominations will be kept on active file for award(s) consideration for a period of five (5) years.  Updated biographical information will be requested as needed.
  F. All nominations will be kept confidential.

III. Selection of Recipients
  A. The FCS Alumni Awards Committee, appointed by the president of the FCS Alumni Society Board of Directors, will present a slate of finalists (if so chosen) at the spring board meeting each year.  The full board will then vote on the slate as presented with a simple majority needed for approval.

IV. Announcement of Awards
  A. University Marketing and Communications, at the request of The Ball State University Alumni Association, will send releases about each award on behalf of the FCS Alumni Board.  Among publications to be considered for award announcements are the Ball State Alumnus, the FCS department newsletter, Muncie and Indianapolis newspapers, recipients’ hometown newspaper, professional journals and publications, and recipients’ company newsletters.  (All state press should be advised, as this is a good method of generating positive exposure for Ball State University and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences).

V. Exceptions
  A. Exceptions to any criteria above may be made by a majority vote of the FCS Alumni Awards Committee.
