The Academy for Community Leadership (ACL) is unique ten-week program for individuals who want to be more involved in community efforts in Muncie/Delaware County. The program is offered by the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and Ball State University’s Office of Community Engagement.
During the program, ACL participants will hear from key community leaders; learn about our rich history, current strengths, and future aspirations; and connect with civic-minded colleagues from a wide variety of professions.
Upon completion, participants become part of an extensive network of ACL alums spanning 40 years of the program.

The ACL class of 2017 will run on Thursday mornings, 7:30 – 10 am, September 7 – November 9th.
Each session is hosted at a different Muncie/Delaware County location to provide greater exposure to our community’s many assets.
Each week features a specific topic discussed by a panel of community leaders/experts:
- Muncie HIstory
- Local Government and Politics
- The Role of Religion in the Community
- Community Planning Perspectives
- Business and Economic Perspectives
- Social, Cultural, and Artistic Perspectives
- Education and Its Role in the Community
- Health Services in the Community
In addition, ACL participants attend a Muncie City Council meeting and complete a small-group volunteer experience at one of three local non-profit organizations.
Chamber members: $300/person
Non-Chamber members: $350/person
Space is limited to 35 for each class.
