I-9 Verification

I-9 Verification
An important first step for new employees is to complete an I-9 Verification.

Purpose:  To ensure that all new employees are authorized to work in the U. S.

All new employees of the university (both citizen and noncitizen) must complete a Form I-9 no later than the actual beginning of their employment to indicate that they are authorized to work in the United States.  International employees who are not U. S. citizens must be prepared to present documents to support that they are authorized to work in the United States; the types of documents may very greatly depending upon their status.

U. S. citizens must present documents that establish identity and employment authorization.  An example of a document that establishes both identity and employment authorization is a U.S. Passport.  Some examples of documents that establish identity are a driver’s license issued by a state; an ID card issued by federal, state or local government agencies; a school ID card with a photo.  Some examples of documents that establish employment authorization are a social security card or a birth certificate.  For service, staff, professional, and faculty this verification process is completed at UHRS in Administration Building, Room 350.
