Merrell Thomas Marshall Memorial Scholarship Application

Dear Ball State Students:  We hope you will consider applying for the Merrell Thomas Marshall Memorial Scholarship.  Founded by Ms. Sandy Marshall, in honor of her father, the Marshall Scholarship recognizes students who are committed to diversity-related work in their communities, on campus, and in society at large.   Because Ball State students are a diverse group in themselves, we welcome applicants who advocate social justice with regard to race, ethnicity, economic status, national origin, disability, gender, sexual identity, age, and/or religious viewpoints.

Ms. Marshall grew up in the forties and fifties, a time of intolerance and social injustice.  Mr. Marshall, for whom the scholarship is named, did not allow any display of such intolerance to reach the mind and soul of his daughter.  This allowed her to become an adult who felt she could move freely among all society without fear or prejudice.  This has become a major theme of her life and she wanted to create a memorial not only to her father but also to encourage and aid more young people to dedicate a part of their lives to these ideals.
