  1. When do I get paid?

  2. Where do I pick up my pay checks?
    Your Ball State University payroll is now paperless. If you have not already signed up for direct deposit you can pick up your pay check from the Payroll & Employee Benefits office located in the Administration Building. At that time, you will be asked to complete your direct deposit form for future payroll payments.
  3. What happens if I don't complete a direct deposit form?
    We will print a check and you will be required to complete a direct deposit form when you pick it up from the Payroll & Employee Benefits office.
  4. What if I don't have a bank account?
    You will need to open an account. Ball State Federal Credit Union will open a savings account with a $5 deposit to anyone employed by Ball State University.
  5. Can I set up direct deposit from Self Serve?
    No. Complete a direct deposit form on line, print it off and bring it to the Payroll office.
  6. If I work in two departments will I get two checks?
    No, wages are added together and paid in one check.
  7. I need to know the amount deducted last year for the United Way or BSU Foundation, etc.
    Please refer back to your December check stub. The year-to-date information is listed. You may also find this information by using Employee Self Serve (ESS).
  8. I am a Faculty member and do not work in the summer. When are my insurances deducted?
    Faculty/Professional academic year or 10-month employees have their premiums deducted from each of the academic year payments (August through May), or 1/10th of the annual premium cost deducted from each pay check.
  9. When do I get my 12-month pay option checks?
    12-Month Pay Option payments are repaid in two equal installments and are included with pay checks paid on June 30 and July 31, without interest and with no impact on taxable wages. Child support will be collected from these payments, as well as VSP (voluntary vision insurance).
  10. If the bank does not receive my payroll deposit, who should I call?
    Some banks may take longer to post the money to your account. PEB will contact you if we receive the funds back. You can confirm your banking information by using Employee Self Serve (ESS).
  11. What is the web site to access my direct deposit stub?
    Employee Self Service (ESS)
  12. When I put my pin number in the Self Serve, it says "INVALID."
    If you entered three (3) zeros in front of your ID number, you will get this message. Use only two (2) zeros before ID number in Self Serve.
  13. How many pays do Graduate Assistants receive?
    Academic year graduate assignments are a total of 19 pays. Fall and Spring semester both consist of 9 pays each.
  14. Is there a break in pay over the winter break for Graduate Assistants?
    If you have an academic year assignment, there will be no interruption in pay through the last graduate pay in May. However if your assistantship is broken down into Fall and Spring semesters, you will have a break in pay for the period that covers the break between semesters.
