Hardware Repair is responsible for providing hardware repair for university-owned equipment including computers, printers, and scanners. We can also repair some student-owned computers. Our certified technicians provide service for both Windows-based and Apple computer equipment.
Reporting a Problem with University-Owned Equipment If you are having problems with university-owned computer equipment, please contact the Technology HelpDesk. Help for Students Students who are having problems with their computers have a couple of options for getting assistance.
The staff in TechTime and iCare Corner will then assist in resolving the problem, or if staff determine that you are having a hardware problem that needs more advanced assistance, they will create a referral so that Ball State's Hardware Repair technicians can work on your computer.
Are There Charges for Repairs to Student-Owned Computers? For computers under warranty, there is normally no charge for the repairs. The exception to that is if the problem is caused by user abuse of the computer, such as dropping it or spilling liquid in it. If user abuse is the cause of the problem, then there will be charges associated with repairing these issues not covered under warranty.For out-of-warranty computers or those have been damaged by user abuse, you will be charged $60 per hour, plus the cost of the parts. Before any work is done that will result in a charge, an estimate will be prepared and you will be contacted to approve or decline the repair. If the repair is declined, there will be a $30 charge for the diagnosis and preparation of the estimate.
