Education Redefined 2.0: Advancing Indiana

We are pressing forward with an ambitious agenda at Ball State. We seek to carve out a distinctive place in the world.

Our vision is to become recognized for being relentlessly focused on learning outcomes, embracing and solving today’s greatest educational challenges, providing bright and curious students a holistic learning experience that occurs in and out of the classroom, and bringing fresh and pragmatic thinking to the problems facing communities, businesses, and governments in Indiana and beyond.

Education Redefined: Strategic Plan 2007-2012 produced impressive results. Resting not for a moment, we have already set a bold course toward an even more distinctive Ball State: Education Redefined 2.0: Advancing Indiana (PDF).

The Planning Process

The Strategic Plan Task Force began its work in the winter of 2011. The spring 2011 semester started with the members structuring the planning process and evaluating the 2007-2012 plan and outcomes.

During summer and early fall 2011, task force members spread across campus and the larger university community. They gathered input from more than 20 groups and approximately 450 individuals. They spent the end of 2011 focused on interpreting the data from those stakeholders.

Built squarely on this foundation of input and analysis, the task force crafted the first plan draft early in the spring 2012 semester. The team presented the initial draft to senior academic and administrative leaders in February of 2012. In the spring of 2012, the draft was shared with key stakeholder groups, including student leaders. At the same time, divisional vice presidents and department heads drafted performance indicators aligned with each objective in the draft plan.

In the summer and early in the fall semester of 2012, comments on the draft plan and performance indicators were requested from faculty, staff, and students both in-person and by e-mail and the strategic plan website.

The plan was refined based on that input, and key performance indicators were finalized through the course of the fall semester. It was approved by the Board of Trustees at its December 14, 2012, meeting.
