This Year’s Juror

About Caleb Weintraub

How is the juror selected?

The Gallery Committee selects the juror for the exhibition each year. The committee invites nominations each Fall semester from the school’s faculty.

The School of Art is proud to announce this year’s juror will be Caleb Weintraub, associate professor of painting, and area head of painting at Indiana University, Bloomington. Mr. Weintraub’s artistic work encompasses digital, sculptural, and 2D painting.

On his IU faculty web page, Mr. Weintraub describes his art by saying, “I explore clichés, turn them on their heads... art historical clichés, orientalist clichés, emotional clichés. I sift through cultural, religious, and political forces and comment on the nature of influence. I dream up a place that is the result of a civilization saturated with information—a culture that is exhilarating, disturbing, and opaque.” He also describes the influences on his art-making by saying, “It is as much informed by Rousseau and Van der Weyden as it is by Thom Browne (fashion designer), Seydou Këita (photographer), and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (filmmaker).”

You can also visit Mr. Weintraub’s artist web site.
