Ball State's BFA emphasis in animation provides students with a comprehensive digital animation experience that explores traditional 2D animation and 3D animation.
Ball State University Undergraduate Animation Demo Reel 2014-2015
The goal of the BFA animation program is to prepare students for career pursuits in industries such as film, television, video games, medical animation, architectural rendering, advertising, and product visualization. Students learn up-to-date animation techniques as well as industry-standard animation software. The animation curriculum leads students through a classic arts foundation and then into a strong technical foundation guided by industry demands. In this way, students become more creative and innovative during their senior year.

Students take classes that cover character design, storyboarding, traditional animation, and other topics. The 3D animation classes cover modeling, texturing, lighting, character animation and visual effects. Students have opportunities to participate in hands-on, collaborative projects with students in other courses of study.
Graduates of the Ball State Animation Program will be able to demonstrate how to:
- Use fine art and design principles in creative problem-solving
- Understand professional terminology and apply it to their work and work of others
- Create a demo reel or portfolio to use when applying for jobs in their chosen industry or graduate school
- Market their skills and compete in today’s job market
The animation program maintains a policy of selective enrollment. Admission to the animation sequences requires a review at the end of the spring term.
