Nothing can prepare students for working at a daily newspaper better than actually working at a daily newspaper. That’s the opportunity provided by the award-winning The Ball State Daily News student newspaper. With a circulation of 8,000, it's published Monday through Thursday in print with a digital edition Friday during the academic year except during exam periods and vacations.
The Daily News (DN) publishes Monday and Thursday during summer sessions. The paper's website is updated during the day with breaking news and on nights and weekends.
At this newspaper, you’ll gain experience in a full range of roles that include reporting, editing, design, video and photography.
The DN has embraced the "digital first" approach to modern news gathering, in which staffers use social media tools, their website and blogs to break news and build stories before turning to the print edition to add depth and context.
Their efforts have yielded years of top awards, including first-place recognition for online news, design, photography and reporting in virtually every category judged by major college journalism groups.
The newspaper is supported by advertising as well as the university’s general fund and is available free to students at various locations across campus. Paid and unpaid positions are available to journalism majors as well as other students.
