  • American Advertising Federation — The Ball State chapter of AAF is focused on developing interests and skill sets in advertising. Though it is mostly made up of advertising majors, anyone may join. It’s an ideal way to explore a potential career in advertising.
  • Journalism Education Association — Ball State founded the first student chapter of this organization, which exists to promote professionalism and excellence in the field of journalism education.
  • Kappa Tau Alpha (Journalism) — This is the seventh-oldest national honor society in the nation, and it recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in university journalism and mass communications programs. KTA was founded at the University of Missouri in 1910. Only students who rank in the top 10 percent of their class are invited for membership. Minimum grade-point average required for consideration is a 3.5 in a student’s major and overall GPA.
  • National Association of Black Journalists — This organization’s purpose is to bring together African-American journalists with similar concerns, recruit and retain African-American journalism students, and provide support and network opportunities among journalism professionals and students. Members must have a major or minor in the journalism or telecommunications department.
  • National Press Photographers Association — This organization recognizes and honors people who have contributed to the betterment of photojournalism at Ball State and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas prompted by outside speakers, cinematic presentations related to news photography, field trips, outside conferences, and competitions.
  • Public Relations Student Society of America — Members of this organization develop relationships with pubic relations professionals and other Ball State students who are interested in public relations. The chapter presents opportunities to learn more about public relations through internships, jobs, scholarships, competitions, networking, and various other events. The group strives to enhance students’ knowledge about the industry, presents educational development, and promotes the ethical practices within the public relations arena.
  • Society for News Design —This group provides student and staff who are interested in publication design and graphics the resources necessary to succeed in the professional and educational world.
