If you choose to pursue a major or minor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), you are choosing to be part of the solution to managing resources for both nature and humanity.
NREM strives for an ideal balance between the needs of humanity and the needs of natural systems. At Ball State, you will study environmental management concepts in an immersive learning environment such as the adaptive reuse for the old Indiana Steel and Wire property in Muncie, where our students gained practical experience in soil contamination, environmental regulations, and site conversion.
NREM at Ball State is a vibrant part of the local, state, national, and international communities. Our professors and students collaborate with professionals across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors on local, regional, and global challenges.
You will have opportunities to meet and interact with a diverse body of successful, experienced, and qualified professionals through NREM, as well as through Ball State campus events. Our department also maintains multiple field stations in central Indiana so you can conduct important research.
Our students have varied interests, and your study topics can include
parks and recreation, environmental management, land management, urban and rural community development, industrial ecology, environmental change, water quality, waste water management, hazardous materials/environmental site assessment, awareness and response to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction (WMD), air quality, pollution control, and environmental permitting certifications.
Employers are seeking qualified graduates to incorporate knowledge about natural resources and environmental management into their business infrastructure and future development. As an NREM graduate, you will be qualified for a variety of important careers.
We invite you to explore the NREM newsletters and other important departmental news.
