About Online and Distance Education

Nationally recognized Ball State programs delivered to you

Ball State’s Division of Online and Distance Education serves the needs of students who are pursuing fully online degrees and certificates, as well as those seeking a blended experience of online and face-to-face courses.

We are about empowering you with quality educational choices no matter where you are or what your work and family obligations are.

Plus, online and distance learning is nothing new to us.

We have been offering online programs since the 1990s, not to mention distance courses off-campus for decades before that. Our efforts have led to many national rankings and recognitions.

Today, about 10,000 students are enrolled in one or more of our web-based courses. About half of those are online-only students and the other half are main-campus Ball State students supplementing their schedules with online classes.

We offer more than 60 online degrees and certificates, and students can choose from about 500 online undergraduate and graduate courses. Some of those programs also include live, face-to-face courses at Ball State's Indianapolis and Fishers centers.

Entrepreneurial Faculty
While students are drawn to the accessibility and flexibility of online study, our online courses are the same challenging courses offered on our main campus, and they are developed and taught by the same professors who teach within Ball State’s 48 academic departments. Our faculty have been innovators in online education. Plus, they have access to ongoing professional development in relation to online teaching and learning. Through Ball State’s Integrated Learning Institute, faculty members, instructional designers, and technology specialists work together in the creation of exciting and meaningful online and blended courses.
