Transcending Discipline

  1. Learn how and why an architecture centric design practice evolves into a design firm.
  2. Understand how to maximize collaboration between design professionals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  3. Understand how a design firm uses technology to connect, visualize critique, and produce.
  4. Learn why a collaborative process not reliant on siloed disciplinary efforts can result in stronger design solutions.

G. W. Justin Platts, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP is a Landscape Architect, Principal, and the Urban Design Market Leader with RDG Planning & Design, a nationally-recognized, multi-disciplinary design firm. As an award-winning designer, Justin's work has been recognized by the ASLA, APA, and Public Art's Year in Review. Justin has authored and co-authored articles for multiple trade and professional organization magazines. As a recognized expert in his field, he regularly presents and speaks at conferences around the American Midwest on the importance of an inclusive public process when seeking a successful community design.

A skilled listener and practiced presenter, Justin leads public involvement and design workshops across the country to assist groups, municipalities, and institutions to create meaning together. His love for people of all kinds and the artful design of places for communities are the driving force behind his work.

Justin received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University and began his career with Wallace Roberts Todd in San Diego, California. In 2003, Justin joined RDG Planning & Design. Justin is married to Dr. Jessica Platts, DVM, MPH. Together they live on an acreage in Central Iowa where they enjoy tending to their ever-growing menagerie of animals and raising their four children Isabel, Greta, Nox, and Lucy.
