W. Craig Dobbs
William “Craig” Dobbs, who joined the Ball State University Foundation Board in fall 2015, is managing director of investments for The Dobbs Group at Graystone Consulting, a business unit of Morgan Stanley.
Dobbs has more than 27 years of experience as an institutional investment consultant, having worked for his present firm, Graystone since 2009, Citi Institutional Consulting from 2002-09, and Merrill Lynch from 1988 to 2002. He is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association and the Association of Professional Investment Consultants.
Dobbs earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Ball State in 1986. He credits Dr. Joseph Burton “J.B.” Black Jr., then dean of the College of Business, with helping him “get his foot in the door” at Northwestern Mutual, where Dobbs became the number one college agent in the country his senior year. Black then encouraged Dobbs to interview with Merrill Lynch, where the Indiana native started his consulting career. A member of the Cardinal Varsity Club and President’s Circle, Dobbs continues to remain connected with the Miller College of Business. In February 2015, he returned to campus as an Executive in Residence, speaking to MCOB students, faculty, and alumni about the role of technology in the finance industry.
In addition to his investment in Ball State, Dobbs and his wife, Teneen, support a range of religious, scientific, literary, and educational causes through the William Craig and Teneen L. Dobbs Charitable Foundation, which the couple established in 2010 along with the Children’s TherAplay Foundation in 2001.
The Dobbs, who live in Carmel, have four children—twins Kirstie and Kiefer, Kassie, and Kalvin.
